THANKSGIVING 2015!

Our students at María Inmaculada school are looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving on 26th of November.

Thanksgiving is an American holiday where they celebrate the time being thankful for all the good things that have happened during the year. It is typical to have a dinner by eating stuffed turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes, corn and pumpkin pie.

Thanksgiving began when the pilgrims from England sailed to America to have the freedom to practice their religion freely. One year there was a horrible winter and the pilgrims had no food to eat and many died. By time spring came, the Native Americans came to their aid. They brought the pilgrims food to eat and they had a big feast. This was how Thanksgiving started.

To celebrate Thanksgiving the children colored some photos that are hung in the corridor. They are also going to hear some stories about Thanksgiving and listen to a PowerPoint presentation.

Here you can watch a video of a story which explains to you the origins of Thanksgiving Day and what people do on that day. We hope you enjoy it!

If your level of English is high, you may also enjoy these articles from the New York Times. You can find information about the traditions, Black Friday and memorable meals...

MAX OK! : )

We love this place!     MAX OK!
It used to be a factory, which until it´s conversion in 1983 to the service sector, produced diet foods.
The town is crossed by two rivers in a privileged natural environment. It is also a strategic starting point for discovering the most characteristic spots of our beautiful region, Cantabria. (1)

23/11/2015       Welcome to our language Immersion

When we arrived in Entrambasaguas the people at the hostel welcomed us with warm smiles. Then we took a group photo.

Next, we split the children into groups and ate lunch. For lunch we had spaghetti, fish, salad and an orange. Mmmmm....tasty!

After lunch we got the groups ready for their room assignments. Once the children received their room assignment they headed to the room and took their suitcases with them.

Once they got to their room they brushed their teeth, took any medicine they might need and their mobile phone to give to their monitor.
In the groups, the monitors explained the city game and how to earn "Max OK!" dollars and then how to use the dollars to buy buildings.

At 5:00 PM everyone ate a sandwich and then they took a shower.
In the evening the kids prepare a theatre piece with their monitor. Then they were allowed to phone home. At 8 PM everyone sat down for dinner and afterwards the kids did a small workshop on prepositions.

At 9:50 PM we watched a vocabulary video and we read and memorised the words.

At 10:00 PM BED TIME since it is the first night, the kids are very excited, anxious and full of energy.

  GOOD NIGHT : )

EUROPEAN LANGUAGE PORTFOLIO

The European Language Portfolio (ELP) was developed by the Language Policy Unit of the Council of Europe. It was created:

-       to support the development of learner autonomy, plurilingualism and intercultural awareness and competence.
-       to allow users to record their language learning achievements and their experience of learning and using languages. (1)

This is the design of our Portfolio for this year:

Children in Primary school enjoy writing and decorating their own portfolios. The pupils express their new knowledge of English in it.  Each child regularly updates their portfolio; you can see how we do our portfolios in María Inmaculada.
